Man, is Lake Tahoe cold! Today we went swimming down at the beach. As I said above, it was quite chilly at the lake, but then again, when is it ever warm? Still, I always have loved to swim there. I also got to paddle the raft for awhile (Kara kept thinking it was her turn about every 5 seconds), and that was fun. We had a nice picnic lunch at the beach, but the mass quantities of ants kept me on my toes the whole time.

Later in the day, we went out to dinner at the Family Tree. I had this great chicken sandwich, and it definitely fulfilled my appetite!

After dinner, we drove to Magic Carpet Golf, which has become some kind of family tradition. It was Kara, Donna and Carlo vs Dad, Amelia and me. We whooped their butts big time (249 to 300!). Afterward, we played at the Moonshine Mine, and I kept soaking the girls (Dad got me a couple times too!). Then, I played the Simpsons arcade game, but couldn’t get past the second level.

On the way to the cabin, we stopped at McDonald’s and got some ice cream. All in all, I had a great day.

Today was our third trip to the Ponderosa. It was pretty much like the other two, except the showdown had better jokes. We went on the breakfast hay wagon again, and had a great breakfast. I had seconds.

I was going to buy something with the money I brought (20 bucks!), but decided to spend it at The Store, which has more variety. When we got home, I got the idea to play Monopoly. Carlo agreed, but as we set up, he quit, and just because he didn’t like the board setup! Talk about being a poor sport!

Tahoe Journal – Father’s Day 1997

June 15th, 1997

Sunday, June 15, 1997 (Father’s Day)

Our second Father’s Day here was as good as the first and better. We gave Dad some Looney Tunes golfing equipment, but the practice putter doesn’t work very well. Dad still loves it.

After the celebration, we had eggs, sausage, and english muffins for breakfast. It was delicious. Then, we drove down to the Tahoe Gal for another ride.

The Tahoe Gal hasn’t changed much, although this time we took the North Shore cruise. The cool thing was that I got an adult ticket (I love growing up!). I had a nice big root beer to drink, and that was good. The captain had a funny Texan accent, and kept repeating things over the loudspeaker. Even so, I still had a great time. When we got home, we had a nice big lunch, sat around for a little while, and left the cabin again.

This time, we decided to drive Lucy to Ward Creek. It was okay, but there were mosquitoes everywhere! Then, we came home, which we were all very glad about!

Tahoe Journal – Flag Day 1997

June 14th, 1997

Saturday, June 14, 1997 (Flag Day)

Today, we did EVERYTHING & MORE!!!

First, we went to the Silver Legacy in Reno. It was okay, but not very child-oriented. We only went there for the dome ceiling, which showed a pretend thunderstorm. That was pretty cool.

Next, we went to Circus Circus. We played lots of arcade games (Dad won lots of stuffed animals), and we all got to watch a really cool trapeze act and a dog show.

After that, we walked to Planet Hollywood, a cool restaurant with props from all kinds of famous movies, like Terminator, The Jabberwocky, Toys and more. I had a mondo ½ pound burger for lunch, and we moved on.

Our next and final stop for the day was at Boomtown, a super-cool place with arcades, a mini-golf course, and a virtual reality ride. We played a round of mini-golf, and while everyone else waited in line for the VR, I played some Skee-Ball. However, I got back in time for, “Red Rock Run”, a really cool VR ride on Mars. This was definitely our best Tahoe trip ever.

I have a feeling that this is going to be the summer of summers. I don’t know why, but something tells me that this summer will be the best.

The ride here was fairly uneventful. We ate breakfast, drove for awhile, ate lunch, drove a little more (you get the idea!). A major plus in this trip is that I get my own bed (a double bed all to myself! Yippee!).

I made sure that we brought our Game Boy and games, and I hope to get plenty of playing time in. We will be staying up here for eight days (which must be some kind of personal record for me!).

When we got here, we pretty much just had a lazy afternoon. I build with Legos, we drank hot chocolate, and we all watched T.V.. All that really happened was when Donna, Kara and I went to get some groceries at Lucky’s. It was boring.

Tommorrow, we are supposed to go to the Silver Legacy and Planet Hollywood. See ya then.

Tahoe Journal – December 28, 1996

Saturday, December 28, 1996

Today, we went to the Bridgetender. I had some chicken strips with fries, along with a nice tall glass of rootbeer. I was defenitely stuffed! When we got home, we went into the snow again. I tried to build a snowman, but certain parties (their names I will not mention) decided to make sure to ruin my vacation. However, I got my revenge with a few necessary snowballs in the proper areas. I continued to build the snowfort, but didn’t finish (oh well; perhaps next winter!). I packed up my bag for when we leave tomorrow (sigh! Parting is such sweet sorrow!).

Today was a pretty good “snow day”, and I had a lot of fun. I started out a fort, and got most of it done. I had a snowball fight with Uncle Joe, but I mostly hit Donna (not entirely by accident!). When Dad joined in, the fight got even better (heh heh!).

A lot of the time, we played board games in the house. I remember playing Battleship, Life, and Monopoly, along with a little Game Boy. Other than that, nothing much else happened.

We almost didn’t make it to Tahoe this year, so be glad that you can read this entry!

When we started out at Los Gatos, it was about 9:15 AM. Already, there was rain coming down pretty hard.

While we were on the freeway, we heard on the radio that there was an accident farther down, and they were turning all the cars around! We almost had to drive back to Los Gatos! Luckily, traffic was moving so slowly, that by the time we reached the turnaround point, they let us through. We didn’t eat lunch, and when we finally got to the cabin (at 4:30 PM, I might add!), the entrance where we usually park was covered with snow!!! Dad had to drop us off, and we had to climb over the wall, and roll down! Then, we stuck our pants in the dryer, and wore blankets around our legs (not kidding!).

Although this trip hasn’t gotten off to a good start, I know it will get much better (I’ll give you a hint: SIX FEET OF SNOW!).

Today, we drove down to Ward Creek. Lucy loved it! Dad, however, was continuously bitten by mosquitoes.

Today, we went to Emerald Bay again, but it was a little different. We took the long hike down again, only this time, the water level was raised considerably higher. We had a picnic lunch; I had a very good sausage sandwich. This time, we got to have a tour of Vikingsholm, and it was pretty cool.

That night, we went golfing. We went on the larger course (the one with 28 holes ), and it was pretty fun. I never got a “hole in one”, but I did very well, nonetheless. The “pendulum” and the “bear” were pretty tough, but other, like the “spider” and the “castle” were fairly simple.

After golfing, we played “Moonshine Mine”, which is a shooting game. You try to hit the targets, and something funny happens. Dad continuously hit one guy in the pants, and he always shot water in our faces. It was very fun.
